Old Trees are Making a Difference

Updated: Jun 12, 2024

Today was a significant day on our cacao plantations in Flores. Our founder, Septhania Tiwu, and experienced farmer, Falens Wara, harvested some of the best and ripest cacao fruits for our first sample production. The photo captures Falens skillfully working in one of the impressively large and old cacao trees that make our plantations so unique.

The Unique Value of Old Cacao Trees

Our cacao trees are unlike the usual, low-growing plantation trees. They are old, tall, and grow in a permaculture environment among mango, vanilla, coconut, and clove plants. This natural diversity and the age of the trees contribute to the exceptional quality and complex flavors of our cacao. While harvesting from these trees is more challenging, the results are well worth the effort.

Sustainable Support for Farmers

We have provided tools and organic pesticides to our farmers to help improve the health and quality of the plants. The initial successes of these measures are already visible: robust, healthy cacao trees and fruits of the highest quality.
